Habari Project is a new blogging platform, it’s a free software released under Apache License 2.0. The name of the project, “habari” is a Swahili word; the meaning of that word is “News”. Habari Project started with the slogan “Spread the News”, and its aim is to represent a fresh start to the idea of blogging.

Habari relies on PHP5 with PHP Data Objects (PDO); some servers does not still support PHP5, so before installing you should learn the PHP version of your server. And Habari works with various SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite). Habari is strongly object oriented, and implements the full suite of the Atom Publishing Protocol. Six Apart, 2001 yılında ilk sürümünü yayınladığı ünlü blog yazılımı Movable Type ile Wordpress’e rakip oldu. Daha önce blogculara lisans bedeli karşılığında satılan Movable Type, yeni çıkan 4üncü (henüz beta) sürümü ile açık kaynak kodlu bir blog platformuna dönüştürüldü.

Six Apart’ın aldığı bu kararla birlikte blog platformu piyasası iyice kızışacak zira bu alana giriş yapmayı bekleyen Habari ile birlikte Wordpress’in ele geçirdiği üstünlüğün ciddi bir darbe alacağı ve blog platformu piyasasındaki rekabetin artacağı kesin.
